ENVIRONMENT
Taking care of the environment is a top priority within the resort area and in our local community. Our major achievements are:
- Beach Offset: Most existing resorts in Sihanoukville, Kep and on all nearby islands, have been built very close to the beach – often less than 10 meters from the high-water line. The Cambodian government’s new requirement asks for a 50 meter offset. This may seem like a waste of space, but it ensures a more pristine environment for guests to enjoy. With the government’s enforcement of these offsets from the high-water line for all future beach resorts in Cambodia, the country’s natural beauty will be protected for the enjoyment of both local and international tourists.
- Single Storey Buildings: Our project involves only single storey buildings, blending perfectly with the surrounding island environment. We are working with the government to limit any future island construction to a maximum of three-storeys, equal to the height of palm trees, in order to preserve the environment of our beautiful island.
- Beach Maintenance & Rubbish Disposal: As we contribute to keeping the environment clean, during certain times of the year the currents bring in a lot of trash, which we clean from the beach on a daily basis. We have purchased a special beach cleaning tractor and trailer which we use regularly to remove rubbish brought in by the sea. This rubbish is collected by us and then sorted into recyclables which are then exported to the mainland for processing.
- Solar Energy: We have turned to solar energy as much as possible, including the lighting for all our walkways, the pier and the uplighting of plants and trees.
- The resort also has its own wastewater treatment plant. We would like to see this becoming a requirement for all existing and future developments on the island. This will go a long way in preserving our beautiful island.
- To reduce the use of single-use plastics, we have our very own drinking water bottling plant with recyclable glass bottles also being commissioned.
- We participate in World Cleanup Day every September 18th, as well as Earth Hour each year, when all electric lights are switched off and the resort is lit by small candles in the shape of the Earth. To further enhance the environment, we also join Cambodia’s National Tree Planting Day.
